In a disheartening display of obeying in advance, media magnates are muzzling their outlets to placate the looming specter of Trump’s Second Reich. Jeff Bezos, Amazon overlord and owner of The Washington Post, quashed his editorial board’s Kamala endorsement, triggering resignations and a subscriber exodus.
But he couldn’t care less. Bezos values the power of ownership more than the integrity of journalism. That explains him spiking Pulitzer-winning cartoonist Ann Telnaes for daring to sketch the embarrassing truth — billionaires like Bezos kneeling before Trump, their golden idol. Evidently, not to be outdone in the spinelessness sweepstakes, Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong instructed his editorial board to “take a break from writing about Trump,” effectively neutering criticism.
Billionaires to Mar-a-Lago like Muslims to Mecca
By trading their bark for a submissive whimper, these watchdogs of democracy embolden the forces threatening the free press. And this epidemic of self-censorship is only the public face. Behind closed doors, billionaire CEOs genuflect — often on pilgrimages to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago. Exhibit A: leaked reports of America’s richest lining up to make million-dollar tributes for Trump’s second inauguration.
Except that obeying in advance isn’t survival — it’s surrender. These rich sycophants think genuflecting will spare them. But they’re in for a rude awakening. After all, their idol will continually demand more than reverence.
I pray Americans never forget— as history will record — that broligarchs like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos sold out American democracy to curry favor with a wannabe dictator. Here’s to the American Robespierre treating them accordingly…
