Chris Christie claimed during his bloviating press conference on Tuesday that he decided not to run for the Republican presidential nomination because he did not want to pull a Palin and abandon his job as governor less than two years into his first term.
But every political insider knows the real reason is that Christie faced the simple fact that, thanks to Tea Party zealots, he could not fit his broad political frame through the narrow ideological door all Republican candidates must pass through to win the 2012 nomination.
Not to mention the not-so-subtle jibes about him being unable to carry his own 350-pound weight through the grueling presidential campaign.
