Venus Williams displaying a rare combination of beauty and strength during her Wimbledon Championship match…
On Saturday, with undiminished skill, indefatigable strength and unbridled joy, Venus Williams rose like a phoenix to reign atop the world of women’s professional tennis. In the longest match in Wimbledon history, Williams outlasted a formidable Lindsay Davenport to reclaim the championship that only recently seemed an exclusive honour to be shared, alternatively, with her sister Serena.
The leap of a champion…You go girl!
So here’s to Venus – the most athletic, graceful, intelligent and poised player ever in women’s tennis (and the most articulate too)!
Now, if she can only get her little sister Serena to spend less time in nightclubs and pastry shops and more on the tennis courts, they could still fulfill their promise of sharing all grand slam titles between them for years to come…

It is nice to see the evolution of women’s tennis. This final was between two veterans of the game that a few years ago had little time for one another. But, now with 27 matches between them (Lindsey holding a 14-13 match edge), it was great to see the mutual respect that has developed between them. Great champions both of them and a Wimbledon final for the ages. Congrats Venus!

we all marvelled that venus still had so much energy to go prancing about the court like a kangaroo after that hard fought and exceptionally long tennis match. poor lindsay by contrast looked like she needed an i.v. drip. damn good show it was!
