Nothing would make me prouder than to see a black man at the top of the Democratic presidential ticket in 2008.

In a feat that is tantamount to David defeating two tag-teaming Goliaths, Barack Obama (D-ILL) has now defeated Hillary (and Bill) Clinton to become the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee.
Because of you, I can stand here and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States of America.

He finally clinched the nomination after securing enough delegates yesterday to surpass the 2,118 needed to declare victory. This finally comes five months after the first primary votes were cast in Iowa and five months before votes will be cast in the November presidential election.
Of course, as the opening quote indicates, I am especially proud of Obama’s accomplishment because he is now the first black (indeed the first non-white) candidate in U.S. history to win the nomination of any major party to become the president of the United States.
Meanwhile, without any hint of irony and showing no trace of grace, Hillary Clinton has already begun spinning the notion that, in order to win the presidency, Obama would have to choose her as his VP running mate. And, given how entitled she felt she was to the presidency, just imagine how entitled she feels she is to the vice presidency….
But I urge you to read the related articles to see why I think Obama would be a fool to do so. Because there’s no greater indication of her pathological sense of entitlement than the fact that she gave a speech last night that made it seem like she, not he, was the putative nominee.
At any rate, here’s to the ascension of Obama as the new leader of the Democratic Party, and to the end of Bill and Hillary’s self-indulgent reign over this party.
Finally, let us pray that – as Obama begins to look more and more like the truly inevitable Democratic nominee (and the next president of the United States) – his Secret Service bodyguards will redouble their efforts to protect him. Because the last thing America needs right now is another assassination that triggers all of the lost hope and incendiary rage of the killing of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr…combined!
NOTE: It is now more important than ever for the Republican nominee, John McCain of Arizona, to pick a minority running mate, like Condoleezza Rice, if he wants to have any chance of defeating Obama in November.
Given the momentary vindication of the troop surge in Iraq, which he credits for his political resurgence, he would do well to choose Condoleezza Rice as his VP running mate….
