Ted Kennedy stood like a bellowing tower of moral outrage as he appealed to the conscience of his fellow fat-cat Senators to grant the poor workers of America a measly raise in their minimum wages. Sen. Kennedy wasn’t asking for billions more for corporate welfare or billions more for unnecessary military procurements. And that, of course, is why nobody cared.
Because last night, Republicans and Democrats (from the Party of the poor and dispossessed no less) voted, once again, to deny America’s working poor a living wage (not to mention health care, worker’s compensation and all of the additional employment benefits that workers around the world take for granted).
And, all the Senator pleaded for was a couple dollars to increase the wage from a paltry $5.15 per hour (where it has withered since 1997) to $7.25 (and only in increments over a 2 year period, for Christ sake!).
Yet, as America indulges in the contrived antics of that billionaire felon, Martha Stewart (including the crass full coverage of her pitch to investors to boast her already inflated stock), little attention is being paid to this unconscionable and inhumane Congressional act against America’s honest and longsuffering workers.
Where’s the outrage!
