Frankly, Trump’s victory was so decisive, and his vision for America so ominous, that it begs the question: What would America look like if it were a conquering Robert E. Lee meeting a surrendering Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox?
Civil war of 2024 with ballots, not bullets
Well, we’re about to live out a 21st-century version of that dystopian counterfactual. Trump’s presidential campaign carried Lee’s divisive vision for America, while Kamala’s represented Grant’s unifying one.
The only redeeming fact? Unlike in 1860, we settled this civil war with ballots instead of bullets.
Biden’s Defeat: Welcoming Trump Back to the White House
But nothing shows how defeated Kamala’s Democrats have become quite like the way President Biden welcomed Trump back to the White House yesterday. In truth, Biden was showing that, like so many politicians, he couldn’t bring himself to treat Trump the way Trump would, and did, treat him.
Sadly, this only reinforces Trump’s belief: the more contempt he shows them, the more respect they’ll show him.
Washington’s 180: From feared insurrection to smooth tradition
It’s also worth noting how, with Trump’s victory, Washington turned on a dime — from preparing for another insurrection to preparing for a traditional transition. That’s because Trump has gotten away with claiming election fraud only when he loses. Biden famously chided Trump, saying, ‘You can’t love your country only when you win.’ Well, evidently, “Yes he can.”
Meanwhile, in true Trumpian fashion, Melania didn’t even bother to accept Jill Biden’s invitation for the traditional first lady’s transition tea. This was Melania showing she’s just as petty, spiteful, vengeful, and disrespectful as her husband. They really are two peas in a pod. Shame. Sad.”
Mr. Untouchable: Trump’s campaign to stay out of jail
Finally, it was an open secret that Trump launched his second presidential campaign primarily to foil criminal prosecutions and stay out of jail. Mission accomplished! Think what you will of him, but this gilded-tower grifter just keeps winning.
The icing on the cake? Yesterday, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith announced his intent to surrender to political reality: President-elect Trump cannot be prosecuted. Smith will end criminal proceedings, resign in abject failure, and await the retribution Trump vowed to inflict on all ‘enemies within.’ God help America.
