Are no better than Obama haters who rooted for Obamacare repeal.
One of the more baffling features of the Obama presidency was the number of poor whites who cheered as rich Republicans tried to repeal their Obamacare health coverage.
Only blind hatred of Barack Obama (a.k.a. racism) explained their self-abnegating stupidity. More to the point, my fellow liberal friends spewed unbridled contempt at them for being so stupid.
Nothing indicates how much delusions of despair are undermining Obama’s presidency quite like poor, unemployed and uninsured (white) folks, who depend on food stamps for their daily bread, opposing his healthcare/insurance reform. … Polls routinely show that the vast majority of those who oppose ‘Obamacare’ actually support its provisions. Idiots!

This is why it’s such a curious thing to watch these same friends cheer during the Trump presidency much as those poor whites cheered back then. In this case, they are cheering as the stock market falls – convinced that, thanks to Trump’s own boasting, the more it falls, the more his presidency fails.
And boy were they cheering yesterday. The DOW plunged another 660 points, the NASDAQ another 202 – both continuing the downward trend that ended 2018.
In only three months [since early October], Apple has lost $452 billion in market capitalization. … [T]hose losses are larger than the individual value of 496 members of the S&P 500 — including Facebook and J.P. Morgan. … [It is also] more than double the size of Wells Fargo [and] more than three times the size of McDonald’s.

Except that the more the stock market falls, the more their/our 401(k) shrinks. But here too, only blind hatred of Donald Trump (a.k.a. rabid partisanship) explains their self-abnegating stupidity.
You can well imagine their resistance when I point out that they
- are aping the poor whites they once jeered for opposing Obamacare; and
- will likely end up with egg on their faces when stock market rebounds, which it is bound to do.
But the only thing I detest more than hypocrisy is hypocrisy compounded by stupidity.
Therefore, I have no compunction about outing these motley fools (many of whom I still call friends). Unfortunately, their Trump derangement syndrome is so acute, they’d rather lose their retirement savings than see him have a successful presidency – based on his favorite metric, the stock market.
