In “FBI Agent Strzok’s Tell-All Alleges Trump Ran for President as Putin’s ‘Manchurian Candidate’,” September 8, 2020, I damned William Barr for acting more like Trump’s pre-Cohen fixer, Roy Cohn, than as America’s attorney general.
And Trump has a well-documented MO of projecting onto others whatever he is guilty of. Therefore, it’s hardly surprising that he has Barr acting like the lawless BLM protesters he demonizes.
Ominously, Barr has shown time and again that there is no norm he won’t shatter or law he won’t bend to further Trump’s dystopian agenda. This includes a willingness to not only do his dirty work, but commit any cardinal sin.
Most notorious, of course, was the way he kneecapped publication of the Mueller Report. Remember how he rushed a news conference to declare that the Report exonerated Trump of conspiring with Russia to cheat in the 2016 presidential election…?
This forced an infuriatingly press-shy Robert Mueller to call him out – not only in an urgent press release but also under oath during his congressional testimony.
Former special counsel Robert Mueller on Wednesday doubled down on his assertion that his report did not exonerate President Trump, conflicting with the president’s repeated statements that he was ‘totally’ cleared by Mueller’s investigation.
(The Hill, July 24, 2019)
In fact, Mueller made clear that, the evidence of this president’s guilt was so overwhelming, he would have indicted Trump if he had the authority to do so. This is why Mueller expressly urged Congress to use its authority to impeach Trump. Congress did; unfortunately, Republicans, for whom Trump can do no wrong, acquitted him.
But the point is that Barr’s seems possessed of a cult-like determination to do Trump’s bidding. Only that explains this racial abomination, which he proffered recently in a vain attempt to cover-up Trump’s Covid-19 failures:
Attorney General William Barr drew sharp condemnation Thursday for comparing lockdown orders during the coronavirus pandemic to slavery. … Barr had called the lockdown orders the ‘greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history’ since slavery. …
Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the No. 3 House Democratic leader, told CNN that Barr’s remarks were ‘the most ridiculous, tone-deaf, God-awful things I’ve ever heard’ because they wrongly equated human bondage with a measure aimed at saving lives.
(The Associated Press, September 17, 2020)
Except that, to be fair, Barr is no different from far too many others who have sacrificed not just their professional integrity but their very souls at the altar of Trump’s diabolical ambition.
In any event, is it just me, or does Barr strike you too as the man-boy version of the fat, dorky kid in high school – who would do anything to ingratiate himself with the most popular boy on campus…?
Strzok, the aforementioned FBI agent, assessed Trump as Putin’s useful idiot. So what does that make Barr and all of the other idiots who have made themselves so useful to Trump…?
