No one has been a more ardent critic of the black-victimology politics that Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have turned into a very profitable business enterprise.
But even these firebrands occasionally stumble upon a perceived racial slight that is in fact worthy of outrage and protest. And such is the case with this cartoon that was published in the New York Post on Wednesday:
Frankly, not even a card-carrying member of the KKK could deny its patently racist (black-man-as-ape) depiction. But that it alludes to the first black president of the United States makes this cartoon not only insulting but also dangerous.
After all, if the Post indicates that it’s okay to laugh about assassinating President Obama because of his economic stimulus plan, some kook might think it’s okay to assassinate him because of his health care plan, which some right-wing nuts have damned as a treasonous (socialist) manifesto. God knows JFK, RFK and MLK were taken out for much less….
It was meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill. Period.
But it has been taken as something else – as a depiction of President Obama, as a thinly veiled expression of racism. This most certainly was not its intent; to those who were offended by the image, we apologize.
Meanwhile, this indignant “apology” to those (sensitive blacks and liberal whites) who didn’t get the joke is sufficient provocation for Sharpton & Co to picket the Post until kingdom come.
Though, more importantly, I urge their advertisers and the black professional athletes on whom they rely to generate interest in their sports pages to boycott the Post. Then it would only be a matter of time until it withers away from the streets of New York and is relegated to the wingnuts’ hermetically sealed circle in cyberspace.

It is the blacks that are more racist in this country, not the whites. They made fun of bush for 8 years as a monkey. do it to obama and not it is racism. Maybe al sharpton should look in the mirror and ask him self if he is racist.
Tom says
Did the president himself write the stimulus package? I don’t believe anything racist was intended. Perhaps the cartonnist did not agree with the contnets of the stimulus package and was just implying that “anyone” or “any monkey”could have written it. Why do people always look for the worst in EVERYTHING? Al Sharpton succeeded and got his face on camera AGAIN.

So it was OK for people to make fun of and draw cartoons of Mr. Bush, but it’s not OK to do the same thing to Obama. What a two way street it is when it comes to Democrats and black people.

You are an idiot- i saw the cartoon and thought it was meant for Congress (as in a room full of monkeys)! Get off your racial high horse and get on to more important things. Unless you are looking for a bribe like Jesse Jackson got from budweiser for his kids.

Another post with people blowing things out of proportion. First the story with police shooting a chimpanzee is true. Second Obama did not write the bill himself. The crazed Democrats in the house wrote the bill and none of them even know what all is in it or have read the hole bill. The spending package was written like some crazy chimpanzee did it. This was for the idiot that wrote this post and all you robots that follow suit. Looks to me you are the racist’s along with the NAACP.

IT’S A CARTOON! how does a monkey automatically mean that it’s racist! This is just comeing from people that believe America still owes the black comuunity back for slavery. Now, everybody has to be SOOOO carfull about what they say or do because it might affend black people. Racisim has really done a one-eighty. (BTW, i gladly voted FOR Obama)

The shoe is on the other foot and oh what a difference. Review your Am Hist to find out who writes legislation and who signs legislation. Seems like all the nuts are already thick in thin things. :)

If the caption had read “Now we’ll have to find another completely inexperienced chimp to rise to power through lofty rhetoric and by making unrealistic and potentially harmful promises” then I could see your problem.
Everyone knows that Pelosi and Reid WROTE the stimulus bill – and that it was “crafted” in the same haphazard and illogical way a chimp would do it. Reid does actually hunch over like a chimp…I think he should be offended by this.

You, Jesse, Al and Eric Holder need to get a life. You all could find ‘racism’ and
‘cowards’ under a rock.
It’s getting old. Give it a rest. I don’t subscribe to the Post, but I think I’ll sign up.

I hadn’t seen the Post’s cartoon till today. Now I understand the uproar, and there is cause for it. Also, I’d like to mention that it is not just liberal whites who are concerned; I am definitely a conservative. However, since I grew up in Suriname, I may not be the best representative of “conservative whites”… I was in the minority there, and we all got along just fine.
