A$AP Rocky acquitted
Yesterday, a jury acquitted rapper A$AP Rocky of shooting at childhood friend A$AP Relli during a 2021 altercation. He faced two felony assault charges that could’ve put him behind bars for 24 years.
That explains his immediate reaction when he heard the jury foreman say, “not guilty.” Rocky leaped from the defense table, over the spectator barriers, and into the supportive embrace of his girlfriend, Rihanna — the mother of his two sons.
The real crime
Donald Trump cried “selective prosecution” all the way to the White House — twice. But if anyone had a real case for it, it’s A$AP Rocky. Frankly, trying to lock up a man over a petty beef with an old friend — where no one was even hurt, despite the alleged gunplay — was a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money and time.
I mean, A$AP Rocky is no misogynistic Tory Lanez. After all, Lanez didn’t just shoot his girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion, during an argument; he led a campaign of intimidation and character assassination against her. That’s why he deserves every minute of the 10 years he’s serving behind bars.
Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky has everything going for him — Grammy-nominated artist, young father of two, and boyfriend of Rihanna, a Black woman as rich and famous as Taylor Swift. Yet blue-state prosecutors still tried to lock him up over this “victimless” crime. Is it any wonder so many Black men are wasting away in American prisons?
