That’s why they wasted no time reveling in the apocalyptic-cum-hedonistic prelude to their rapture. More to the point, it was always wishful thinking to expect any Republican to vote to impeach their god … for anything.
Therefore, I don’t get all the dismay over “moderate Republicans” defying logic, reason, and common sense to normalize Trump’s high crimes and misdemeanors. Here, for example, is how Will Hurd of Texas sermonized his ride-or-die support:
An impeachable offense should be compelling, overwhelmingly clear, and unambiguous. And it’s not something to be rushed or taken lightly. I have not heard evidence proving the president committed bribery or extortion.
(The Atlantic, November 21, 2019)
I heard the whole damn thing. So, trust me folks, it took willful deafness for Hurd to fail to hear clear and convincing evidence of bribery and extortion.
Mind you, he would have heard more than enough if he were in Congress when Republicans held their impeachment inquiry of Bill Clinton. Recall that they wanted to oust him from office (or “overturn the results of the last presidential election”) for merely lying about “having sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.”
Meanwhile, Trump has already told nearly 13,500 lies during his presidency. At least 10,000 of them would be impeachable for any normal president. But notable among them are far more damning lies about having sexual relations with women of ill-repute (sorry, Stormy). Not to mention that, if not ears to hear, Republicans could use their eyes to see the 10 detailed accounts of his abuse of power, which are laid out (on an impeachment platter) in the famous Mueller Report.
God bless Republicans. Long may they live in purgatory…
