Prosecutors said Thursday they would charge Alec Baldwin and two crew members in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a film set in New Mexico, a stunning development that could lead to prison time for the internationally famous, Emmy-winning actor.

Prosecutors Charging Alec Baldwin Are Seeking Fame
These Sante Fe prosecutors don’t have a prayer of convicting Alec Baldwin. Their chances are even less than LA prosecutors had of convicting O.J. Simpson.
Granted, Baldwin is only facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Simpson faced two counts of first-degree murder. But it’s self-evident that this case is bound for jury nullification too. Alas, that’s equal justice in celebrity-obsessed America.
Family of Halyna Hutchins settles case
So why are these prosecutors filing charges? The pursuit of fame is the only thing that explains them doing so. No doubt they’re following the precedent those LA prosecutors set. They lost. Yet they gained unprecedented fame (and fortune).
The civil settlement should have ended this case. That, especially given that Hutchins’ own family has absolved Baldwin of blame.
They accept that this was a “terrible accident.” They even support resuming production on Rust, the movie Halyna was filming when she died.
