The big lie: Haitians eating cats and dogs
Donald Trump and “JV” Vance are spreading another big lie — this time targeting Springfield, Ohio. They’re sounding this false alarm: The Haitians are coming, the Haitians are coming, and they’re eating your cats and dogs! The governor of Ohio and the mayor of Springfield, both Republicans, have begged them to stop. But Trump has never let the truth get in the way of his scaremongering rhetoric. And he’s not about to start now.
This dogged lie has his MAGA followers making bomb threats, forcing everything from schools to city hall and local businesses to close. But Trump and Vance couldn’t care less about the disruption to local residents or the danger to Haitian immigrants. In a rare moment of candor, Vance admitted they “create” big lies to get the media to cover their dystopian policies. In other words, this is MAGA going full Malcolm X: by any means necessary.
Mind you, the contrast between this big lie and the reality in Springfield couldn’t be more stark. Foremost, these Haitian immigrants are legal residents. But community leaders (most of them Republicans) have been all over TV praising them as honest, hardworking people. They say Haitian workers have become indispensable — far from the pet-eating monsters Trump and Vance would have you believe.
Haitian immigrant is Trump’s avenging prosecutor
But here’s the biting irony: While Trump spews lies about Haitian immigrants, the US attorney leading the prosecution of his would-be assassin is Haitian immigrant Markenzy Lapointe. This isn’t just ironic; it’s poetic justice. But think again if you think this humbling irony will cause Trump to rethink his pledge to begin his mass deportation of undesirables with Haitians in Springfield. Like gaslighting and hypocrisy, Trump has decreed irony one of MAGA’s seven dystopian virtues.
Of course, the keyboard bombers threatening Springfield schools are drinking from the same poisoned well as the MAGA mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan 6. Trump’s rhetoric has already resulted in American deaths and incarcerations. Yet, when his dangerous words boomerang, this gaslighting SOB hails himself as a martyr and points fingers. His congenital projection knows no bounds.
Ryan Wesley Routh, the disaffected MAGA nut who tried to assassinate Trump, didn’t even get off a shot. But the prevailing irony is that Trump has stoked more political violence than anyone in US. history. The proverb “live by the sword, die by the sword” hovers over him like a dark cloud. And Trump knows he has radicalized thousands of other disaffected MAGA nuts lying in wait, ready to take their shot.
