Captain America?
Australian actor Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Master and Commander, etc) revealed today that the FBI informed him in 2003 that he was the target of an Al Qaeda plot. Russell claims that Osama bin Laden planned to follow up his 9/11 strike on New York’s Twin Towers with the kidnapping of “an iconic American”. He added that he was the chosen icon; and, that that is why he has been blanketed by a squadron of security agents for the past 2 years. Got that?
Now, as Russell tells it, this kidnapping was meant to paralyze Americans with fear and concern for the welfare of their beloved icon. Think about it people: The Twin Towers and Russell Crowe – two of the most enviable monuments of American imperial power.
Russell, Russell, Russell. C’mon mate!
It’s embarrassing enough for you to admit taking any information from the FBI seriously. After all, these are the geniuses who brought us intelligence about WMDs and who couldn’t find Mohammed Atta in broad daylight.
Indeed, isn’t it more likely that Osama said “Admiral Crowe” (the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; i.e., America’s top military man) but FBI agents heard Russell Crowe instead?
But, to assume you are that “iconic American”? Russell, why didn’t you just burst into hysterical laughter and tell those clowns to go find Osama?
