That Donald Trump is a bloviating fraud and a serial tax cheat comes as no surprise to anyone who knows anything about his business practices.
Why Trump can’t admit he lost
In fact, I presaged two years ago all of the allegations AG Letitia James teased in her sensational press conference yesterday in “The Tax Returns Cometh: ‘Trump Literally Can’t Afford to Lose the Election’,” October 5, 2020. I did so because I knew, if he lost, he would face criminal charges the likes of which no American, let alone a former president, has ever faced before. This is why he can’t bear to admit he lost.
After all, when it comes to the legal jeopardy he now faces, looming criminal cases in Fulton County, Georgia, and those related to his attempt to mount a coup on January 6 are far more serious than this civil suit:
New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit Wednesday accusing former president Donald Trump, three of his grown children and executives at his company of flagrantly manipulating property and other asset valuations to deceive lenders, insurance brokers and tax authorities into giving them better bank-loan and insurance policy rates and to reduce their tax liability. …
It seeks to recover more than $250 million in what James’s office says are ill-gotten gains received through the alleged deceptive practices. While the lawsuit itself is not a criminal prosecution, James said she has referred possible violations of federal law to the Justice Department and the IRS.

Blame it all on Jared!
Arguably, it really is all Jared Kushner’s fault. He was the Iago who got in Trump’s ear and convinced him to leave Michael Cohen behind in New York City when they all came to Washington, DC.
Jared reportedly thought Trump’s notorious “fixer” was just too, er, ghetto. That, of course, would have been betrayal enough. But then, in typical fashion, Trump began refusing to pay Cohen’s fees. And even worse, when the sh*t started hitting the fan, Trump refused to assure Cohen he would get the pardon he desperately sought.
That’s why Cohen ended up in prison and became the star witness for congressional investigations and criminal prosecutions against Trump.
But just think of all the scandalous and incriminating pardons this idiot granted. Yet Trump refused to grant the one that could have avoided all this. After all, AG Letitia James made clear that it was Cohen’s “revenge” testimony that triggered her investigation…
Talk about being penny wise and pound foolish. But that’s Trump, which compels me to end by reprising this fateful prediction from “Trump Brand Now So Toxic, It Appeals Only to Sleazy Used Car Salesmen,” June 7, 2021:
Trump will be the first man in history to rue the day he was ever elected president of the United States.
