Given his apparent nature, it’s only a matter of time before Jackson begins sleeping with little boys again and no doubt, telling them that: If you wanna be free, just beat it!
Paul Rodriguez, the Foreman of the Jury that found Michael Jackson NOT GUILTY yesterday on all counts, claims that the first thing they did in their deliberations was to agree to treat Jackson like any other person. Well, that may have been their intention but I find such an agreement about as credible as they evidently found the claims of child molestation against the king of pop.
Like many practicing attorneys, I began following the Jackson trial with an acute professional interest. But it became clear very early on that the circus atmosphere surrounding the case (with Michael appearing quite the clown in powdered make-up and pajamas) made it good for nothing more than pathetic prurient fascination.
Indeed, unlike his Jurors, I could not escape weighing all of the evidence presented against him in light of his freakish appearance and what is universally known about his weird and undeniably questionable behavior. And, I am sure that this would have affected my deliberation of his fate in this case.
That said, I would have convicted Jackson of at least some of the lesser included offenses of contributing to the delinquency of minors: i.e., for giving them (Jesus juice) wine in soda cans (to ease their inhibitions, perhaps?) and exposing them to pornography (to arouse their natural sexual instincts, perhaps?). But this conviction would entail no jail time! On the other hand, the mother’s contributory negligence (essentially prostituting her son to Jackson), concerns about her mercurial motives (history of scamming celebrities and companies for money) and inconsistencies in the child’s own story raised too many doubts for me to have convicted him of the more serious offenses of child molestation.
This case aside, however, I believe enough is known about Jackson’s unnatural predilection for the intimate company of little boys to convince me that he is a paedophile. And, we need only recall that after he was forced in 1993 to payout over $20 million for sleeping with a little boy, his lawyer Johnnie Cochran declared (in unwittingly incriminating fashion) that – even though he did not molest the child – Michael learned a very costly lesson not to sleep with little boys again. Except that he didn’t. After all, he not only continued to do so but did it more often and more boldly. And now that he probably feels that his perverted behavior has been vindicated in a court of law, I suspect his molestation of boys will become even more egregious.
Finally, it is instructive that the Jury began their deliberation by attempting to dismiss Jackson’s celebrity as a factor in rendering their verdict. Because it seems patently clear that in our celebrity obsessed culture, his fame or even infamy may make Jackson immune not only from conviction but also from ever being charged again for his sexual crimes.
Closing Notes:
To the parents who, despite everything, will still let Michael have his way with their little boys: Forget the courts, just photograph or better still, film Jackson in flagrante delicto with your child (spanking the monkey or giving head), name your price and spare the rest of us the legal spectacle!
To the loving, dependent and enabling members of Michael’s family: Your financial support seems secure for now but in the same way that people wonder how that mother could sacrifice her son’s innocence for Michael’s pleasures, many also wonder how all of you, except for LaToya during a brief period of self-declared independence, could insist with clear conscience that – despite what the world now knows and even more that you’ve probably known all along about his perversions – you see absolutely nothing wrong with Michael’s relationships with little boys.
About the American Criminal Justice System: For many people, this verdict by an all white jury is just as incomprehensible as the verdict by an all black jury in the OJ Simpson case. And, even though that may not say much for justice in America, it does at least confirm that whites can be just as star-struck and stupid as blacks….
