Melania channeling Marie Antionette
Last week, Melania Trump spoke from her gold-encrusted ivory tower. With Trumpian gall and hypocrisy, she complained about the rising cost of food and gas. Her life, after all, is the literal embodiment of “Let them eat cake.”
Now, she’s pretending to commiserate with the common folk. The icing on the cake? She’s only doing this as a promotional tease to get them to buy her memoir, Melania. It’s a masterclass in detachment: bemoaning inflation while hawking a self-aggrandizing book to the very people she claims can barely afford food and gas. It’s like Marie Antoinette suddenly complaining about the price of cake and milk.
Trump family has turned politics into a grifting enterprise
Donald has made fleecing his MAGA supporters a Trump family enterprise. It includes hawking everything from Trump-branded Bibles and digital trading cards to pieces of the suit he wore when he was arrested in Georgia — for the low price of $4,699.53 a pop. And lest we forget, Melania’s grift includes everything from Bolero hats and Mother’s Day necklaces to utterly useless NFTs.
Of course, he famously calls people who lose their lives serving the country in the military “suckers.” So just imagine what she calls people who lose their rent money buying all the MAGA crap they peddle…
Unsurprisingly, this conspicuous grifting has provoked indignant ridicule. But, like her husband, Melania is so shameless, you know she really doesn’t care, don’t you? To be fair, she doesn’t speak much. But every time this ice queen opens her mouth, it’s clear that when it comes to grifting, lying, and gaslighting, she and her husband are two peas in a pod.
Melania, the inscrutable and unscrupulous political wife
It’s political malpractice for any candidate to fail to show off their spouse on the campaign trail. Yet Melania shows up for Trump’s campaign events about as often as Halley’s Comet streaks across the sky. Arguably, she has even more disdain for Trump’s MAGA supporters than he has for non-White migrants. But she clearly couldn’t care less what political commentators think of her conspicuous absence or her imperious grifting.
Still, if Melania ever deigns to speak to reporters, rather than just to her supporters, here are two questions they should ask:
- Mrs. Trump, why does Barron have the looks and height of your tennis instructor?
- Why send your son Barron to a university in NYC, a city your husband calls a crumbling, crime-ridden hellscape? Is this your way of showing that you really don’t care about his politics either?
