Protesters have been setting the city of lights alight for years. They gave me cause to comment on their protests a year ago today in “The Yellow Vests: Paris Is Burning … Again,” December 6, 2018.
Indeed, I am only commenting today because I cannot ignore this flaming symmetry:
More than half a million demonstrators marched on cities throughout France today, with railway workers, teachers and hospital staff joining the largest strike in decades.
Authorities in Paris barricaded the presidential palace and deployed some 6,000 police as activists, many in yellow vests, gathered for a major march aimed at forcing President Emmanuel Macron to abandon his pension reform plans.

Alas, there seems no end to grievances metastasizing among increasingly restive Frenchmen. And history warns that it might take a revolution to quell them.
Vive la France! Vive la révolution!?
