Colin L. Powell was remembered for his leadership skills, his love of ABBA and Bob Marley and “his sense of humor, his insatiable curiosity and his comfort in his own skin” at a funeral Friday that drew presidents past and present, military leaders and hundreds of Washington dignitaries.
Among those in attendance were Powell’s wife, Alma, and other family members; former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush; former secretaries of state Hillary Clinton [Bill is still recovery, and Jimmy Carter is now too old to travel], Condoleezza Rice and Madeleine Albright; former secretary of defense Robert Gates; and former deputy secretary of state Richard L. Armitage.

But where was Donald Trump? Oh right, he has so alienated his predecessors that they will forever avoid him like the plague. And, given the treasonous way he ended his presidency, he will be forever persona non grata in the Presidents Club.
Still, it speaks volumes that he is so devoid of character that he can’t even bring himself to attend the memorial service for a bona-fide national hero. No doubt this is because his oxymoronic mix of narcissism and insecurity is such that he now lives in mortal fear of being upstaged by his predecessors; or by having them treat him like the proverbial skunk at a garden party – doing their best to hold nose without aid of fingers.
