Kamala’s eleventh-hour outreach
Yesterday, Kamala unveiled a laundry list of goodies to pander to Black men. Her “Opportunity Agenda” from them includes legalizing weed, protecting crypto, and offering business loans. The policy behind it — Black empowerment — is solid. But the motivation is so misguided it’s embarrassing. Because Kamala throwing this Hail Mary to Black men is like a preacher turning his back to the congregation to preach to the choir.
Black male voters are like White undecideds — they’re just milking the media attention. Black men know who they’re voting for, and it’s not Trump. But Kamala is making this outreach to counter Trump’s dystopian fantasy that Black men are suddenly jumping ship. Worse, reporters and pundits are pushing the absurd notion that Black Kamala risks losing more Black men than White Joe Biden.
Even Barack Obama has fallen for it. He’s all over TV, lecturing Black men about “manning up” for Kamala because Black women have always stood up for them.
Trump’s banking on felonious bromance with Black men
Granted, Trump is such a dumb racist that he thinks Black men are flocking to him because he’s a convicted felon with a mugshot. He even believes he relates to them more because he tried to peddle golden high-top sneakers. But the reality? They say those Black faces at Trump rallies are just paid extras, taking his money and laughing all the way to the voting booth — where they’ll cast their vote for Kamala.
Frankly, the only wonder is that he has so many sensible people reacting as if his racist outreach makes sense. Alas, Trump has normalized lies, conspiracies, racism, and political scapegoating. That so many think he’s better for Black men than Kamala shows the insidious effect of dystopian delusions.
