Casual football fans think Super Bowl Sunday is the most exciting day of the NFL season. But real fans know that day is Conference Championship Sunday.
And no fan should’ve been surprised that my Eagles finally made the Commanders look like the lucky upstarts they were. The Eagles demolished the Comanders 55-23 for the NFC Conference Championship. But my heart goes out to the Bills. The Chiefs scalped them 32-29 for the AFC Conference Championship.
Truth be told, though, I’m not sure which is more heartbreaking:
- Josh Allen continually leading the Bills to the playoffs, only to lose before making it to the Super Bowl. He’s now 0-for-6 in these playoff games, with 4 of those losses against this Mahomes-led Chiefs team.
- Or Jim Kelly leading the Bills through the playoffs to four consecutive Super Bowl berths from 1990 to 1993, only to lose every friggin’ one.
Anyway, here’s to my Eagles handing the Chiefs the loss in Super Bowl LIX that they should’ve suffered against the Bills yesterday. Because the Chiefs are far from the dominant team that repeated as champion in the last two Super Bowls.
Travis Kelce personifies this decline, looking like a shadow of himself on the field. This might be because Chiefs fans seem more interested in what his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is doing in the stands than in how they’re playing on the field. That must be emasculating for the whole team. It’s self-evident that Kelce is suffering performance anxiety on the field. The wonder is how much longer Taylor will put up with his performance issues off the field…
