MAGA-Republican fear-mongering
MAGA-Republican fear-mongering has Democrats wetting their beds. In fact, with their talk of revenge, “I-am-your-retribution” Trump and his bullying MAGA propagandists are fiendishly instilling fear in everyone.
‘Of course we aren’t fucking bluffing.’ That’s the message one close Trump adviser and former administration official to speak…wants to get across to the press and public, when asked about Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign vows of ‘retribution,’ unprecedented force, and militaristic action. …
These promises run the gamut from siccing active duty military units on not just American cities but also Mexican territory, all the way to prosecuting and potentially imprisoning Trump foes.
(The Rolling Stone, June 21, 2024)
The danger is that people are cowering in fear, accepting Trump’s reelection, and the dystopian autocracy it portends, as a foregone conclusion.
America: a banana republic in the making
Simply put, Trump hasn’t even been reelected, and America is already looking like a banana republic. Exhibit A: the Supreme Court willfully delaying its ruling on his frivolous claim of immunity, giving Trump the de facto immunity he sought.
But too many voters, politicians, corporations, and foreign countries are acting in fear of this wannabe tin-pot dictator. And their fearful presumptions are creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, which is as dismaying as it is alarming.
Because people might spend so much time planning to survive or resist a new “Project 2025“ Trump administration that they fail to do everything possible to prevent it from becoming a reality. It’s like building a bunker instead of stopping the bomb.
The flip side of the revenge coin
Instead of quaking in their boots about Trump’s potential revenge presidency, Democrats should be issuing a stark warning to Trump and his MAGA minions:
- If the Supreme Court rules in favor of presidential immunity, it’s not just a reelected Trump who could wield that power. President Biden could, too.
And wouldn’t it be poetic justice for the very laws Trump hoped would protect him to be used against him? After all, if a reelected Trump could throw his political opponents in jail on trumped-up charges, Biden could throw Trump, Speaker Johnson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and a bunch of others in jail for insurrection and a battery of other credible charges.
Vote for justice
So, instead of fearing revenge under Trump, why not vote for justice under Biden? Let’s turn the tables and remind everyone that the sword of absolute immunity cuts both ways:
Stop fearing what could be and start voting for what should be: a just and accountable presidency.
