Trump’s GOP
A picture is worth a thousand words, and no picture affirms that adage more than the one featured below. It shows the cowards’ gallery of Trump’s VP wannabes heeding his summons. He wanted them to prove their loyalty by showing up at the courtroom where he’s on trial for paying hush money to a porn star.
Any self-respecting man would have family members playing this supportive role. Therefore, it speaks volumes that Trump is relying on opportunistic politicians.
Apropos of his relationship with them, recall that bizarre scene at the first meeting of Trump’s full Cabinet. He invited TV cameras to broadcast live as each of his newly appointed secretaries hailed him like a conquering Caesar.
Their cult-like praise was foreboding enough. After all, these secretaries were the most seasoned and respected members of the Republican Party.
Not to mention that, just months before that fateful day, they were publicly dissing Trump as a carpetbagging laughingstock. Yet, here they were, praising him like no president had ever been praised in US history.
Republicans have no shame, less pride
The sycophancy those Cabinet secretaries displayed was too disheartening for words. But I can see how that scene alone made Trump cocksure that the more contempt he showed Republicans, the more loyalty they would show him. Since then, they’ve proved him right again and again.
Trump has telegraphed his intent to become America’s first dictator. And Republicans seem all too willing to betray America’s democratic values to help him “terminate the Constitution.”
I cannot overstate that a reelected Trump would destroy American democracy to stay in power. And these VP wannabes showed their willingness to help him by treating the courtroom like a campaign venue.
Frankly, pusillanimous Republican men make Stepford Wives and “The Handmaids” look liberated. Now they’re even dressing like their cult leader, which just makes them look like prime members of Trump’s BDSM Club for Men.
