If the health of these presidential candidates is so important, each of them should submit to a full physical examination by a military doctor selected from the active-duty physicians who serve in the White House Medical Unit. After all, these physicians will be responsible for providing health services to the new president (and her family).
That same doctor should do both exams, have access to their medical records, and hold a press conference to report on and answer questions about their results.
All else is folly.
Donald Trump showed this today by not only disclosing that his already discredited Dr. Feelgood performed his exam, but also revealing the results on the Dr. Oz reality-TV show.
Harold N. Bornstein is the real name of Trump’s dubious doctor. Perhaps you recall the typo-ridden note in which he declared Trump the fittest presidential candidate in U.S. history. Trump, clearly no less delusional, promptly released it to the media, presuming it would excuse him from having to disclose his medical records.
Sadly, Teleprompter Don knows he can rely on cable networks to cover his antics as breaking news – no matter how patently absurd. And CNN played its enabling role today like his media puppet – complete with post-show interviews with Trump supporters gushing about how impressed they were by the purported results of his physical examination.
I would be remiss not to note that the Trump phenomenon says far more about stupid Americans, and the ratings-driven news media that cater to them, than it does about him.
But I’ve already written too many commentaries delineating and decrying this pathetic state of public affairs, including “Evangelicals Supporting Donald Trump like Israelites Worshipping Golden Calf,” January 20, 2016. The media spectacle his health has become is only the latest episode….
