Two days ago, when world-news reports gave the impression that flamingos in The Bahamas were dying like flies from a possible outbreak of bird flu, friends from way down under in Australia contacted me to express concern for my family living there. But in my Wednesday column (see below) addressing those reports, I pleaded for calm and expressed assurance that Bahamian Health officials would properly diagnose the situation and take appropriate action.
“The [US and Bahamian] experts have reported that they have seen no sign of bird flu, and no new deaths of flamingos or any other species….” [Eric Carey, director of parks and science for the Bahamas National Trust]
Therefore, I take great pride in spreading the good news that fears of an outbreak of bird flu in The Bahamas have proved completely unwarranted
. Because:“The [US and Bahamian] experts have reported that they have seen no sign of bird flu, and no new deaths of flamingos or any other species….” [Eric Carey, director of parks and science for the Bahamas National Trust]
It’s (still) Better in The Bahamas folks!

Bahamas tourism

Hi Anthony
You must be an agent for your goverment’s tourism industry. If not, they should hire you. This article and the one from Wednesday are so sympathetic and intriguing that I just told my husband we’re going to do like Mary and change our planned trip to St Maarten and go to the Exumas instead. Do we get a discount for mentioning your name?
That beach looks too good to be true. But I’ve been reading your blog long enough to trust you that it is true.

I love it Rebecca..I should have thought of requesting a discount! Anthony will you lobby for a discount for me on my trip as well! :) I wish I was there now …I am so excited… the first thing I want to do is snorkel…I love the fact that the water is clear and not murky …i am sure that there are many beautiful tropical fish to observe…

I don’t know of any other blogger who makes an effort to share good news. This is a great idea. It’s good for our soul. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your supportive spirit. I must confess, however, that I rather hoped the image of that beach would trigger an irresistible desire to rush down to my island paradise, no matter the cost; not only if I provided a discount….
But I appreciate your frugal spirit as well. Therefore, I promise this much: once you get there, you will be greeted and treated like Caribbean queens and you will enjoy such extraordinary pleasures that they will provide blissful memories to bring smiles to your faces everyday for the rest of your lives.
Deal?

The discount would be nice, however, I am expecting…was merely kidding…the bar and level of expectation for my fantasy vacation has now gone up …blissful memories … i always spend way too much on my vacations and I see no reason to change…i wanted to try a drink, mojito, made with Rum, however, I had Rum recently and discovered that Rum does not agree with my system…i am not worried..i shall probably try all the local drinks while I am there…dance, swim, boat, hike and finally pour myself into bed each night … i suspect that once any of us “name drop” celebrity Anthony Hall we shall all be given keys to the city or the area…i would expect no less… :) i just have to make my desktop beach background now…back to work…
