Court makes right decision but American justice remains crooked…
Yesterday, in a long overdue step in the right direction, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) abolished the death penalty – in cases involving juvenile defendants (children under the age of 18). This decision will give reprieve to about 70 death row inmates who committed murder as juveniles (including the DC Sniper, Lee Boyd Malvo, who – along with his “Daddy” – terrorized us in Washington in October 2002).
All conscientious people on this side of the Atlantic applaud our European friends who have been tireless in leading the human rights campaign against the death penalty – in all cases. And, we encourage them to take heart because – even though the Court did not abolish this barbaric act entirely – it was the “overwhelming weight of international opinion” that persuaded to Court to take this first significant step.

A welcome development which took me by surprise, given the record on your side of the Pond. Does America really listen to international opinion? Hard to believe but this is a step in the right direction.
