Anna Nicole Smith’s ‘friendship’ with Bahamian minister
Shane Gibson is the Bahamian Minister of Immigration and Labour. A week ago, pictures of him in compromising positions with the late Anna Nicole Smith went viral. Those images gave the impression they were more than friends.
I argued that those pictures left Prime Minister Perry Christie no choice. He had to demand Gibson’s resignation.
Minister of immigration resigns
Sure enough, Gibson appeared on national TV on Sunday. He announced his resignation “with immediate effect.” It was the right thing to do. And it should have been an honorable gesture.
But Gibson turned it into a pathetic spectacle. He blamed an Opposition conspiracy for his predicament. And he claimed he was resigning to preserve what remains of his family’s integrity — the government’s integrity be damned.
Only days before, he had his wife stand by her man. He appeared on national TV then to spin those pictures in a vain attempt to save his job.
But there’s no spinning those salacious pictures. There’s no spinning his mummy serving as Anna Nicole’s baby Mammy. And there’s no spinning his daddy serving as Howard Stern’s step-and-fetch-it man. I mean, how does Gibson explain his daddy being the skipper of a boat Anna Nicole bought mere days before she died?
No doubt he enlisted other family members to perform domestic services. Only God knows what.
Gibson insists it was all part of the “immigration services we provide all applicants for permanent residency.” But applicants who have been waiting for years know that’s BS.
Gibson’s actions: disgracing The Bahamas and shaming Bahamians
Gibson’s spin insults the intelligence of all Bahamians. And it’s patronizing for him to say we have “nothing to be ashamed of.”
After all, everything about his relationship with Smith smacks of mutual exploitation.
Prime Minister’s lame support
PM Christie’s response makes no sense. He hailed Gibson as “competent and capable.” He said his resignation will be “a loss for the entire country.” And he parroted Gibson’s claim that he was the victim of “an organized conspiracy to take him out.”
But, if Mr. Christie believed all that, why demand Gibson’s resignation? Why not stand by his minister – a man he considers “a genuine friend”?
Frankly, Christie’s leadership is almost as embarrassing as Gibson’s pictures. He complained that three opposition members got caught in similar compromising positions. But they all refused to resign. Yet he settled on decrying the irony and their hypocrisy.
How this rubbernecking drama will playout
Lawyers are arguing about who has the right to Anna Nicole’s embalmed body. And the Florida judge seems as clueless about American law as he is about Bahamian law. But I predict he’ll rule her body must return to The Bahamas for burial next to her son, Daniel.
A Bahamian judge will hold hearings later this week to settle the baby-daddy drama she left behind. It’s an understatement to say Smith’s love life was complicated. But DNA evidence will determine who’s Dannielynn’s daddy. And I predict it will be her old boyfriend Larry Birkhead, not her svengali Howard Stern.
The judge will then award Birkhead sole custody. Birkhead will then return to America. And there he’ll continue Anna Nicole’s gold-digging quest for a cut of her late husband’s fortune.
Lastly, Stern will continue peddling pictures and stories. Gibson insists on blaming an Opposition conspiracy for the compromising pictures. But Stern is not only the usual suspect but the obvious one.
When he returns to The Bahamas, local authorities should confiscate his passport. Because the pending inquest into Daniel’s death will find that he was as responsible as anyone.
Except that the Bahamian government will be afraid to charge Stern with murder. I suspect he has too much compromising information on other government ministers.
But I predict it’s only a matter of time before Stern faces disbarment proceedings in the US. It will be for his unethical and unprofessional relationship with Anna Nicole Smith.

Good stuff!!!
I have never heard such double speak here at home.
Some in the political class that support the PLP are saying that Shane did the right thing by resigning, however, they don’t think he did anything wrong.
Well what caused his resignation if he did nothing wrong? Mere perception?
All this while supposedly running the country?
