How much does this sound like the 50s to the 80s where it was communism i.e. Russia which was out to destory our values of democracy? Now its terrorists i.e. Islamic Extemists…

I take your point political teenager: a struggle between ideologies then, a looming clash of civilisations (religions) now.
But if I may, I’m sure the architects of this war on terror (the Americans) would want you to label their perceived enemies as they do: Islamofacists!
Of course, one might query whether, by making the analogy, you buy into this Bush/Blair global war….
