Russia is now poised for an invasion of Ukraine – just as North Korea has been for an invasion of South Korea for over 50 years. In fact, Russia’s menacing bully, Vladimir Putin, is just like North Korea’s menacing bully, Kim Jong-un … only with lots of oil and more nukes to leverage his mischief making.
But nothing betrays their delusions quite like the public show they make of playing with their deadly toys. Because they strut their stuff seemingly oblivious to the fact that the whole world knows America and other Western countries have those same toys, and then some
Meanwhile, it speaks volumes that it took Ukraine’s bedeviling jokester, Volodymyr Zelensky, to speak truth to the powers that be. Because this comedian-cum-president made a laughingstock of seasoned politicians yesterday when he made a morally and logically compelling case for imposing sanctions on Russia right now.
After all, whether he orders them to invade or not, the Russian troops Putin has surrounding Ukraine – “uncoiled to strike” – is tantamount to forcing this country to exist like a hostage with a gun to his head.
The West must impose crippling sanctions to remove this untenable threat as much as to punish Russia if it invades. Because, frankly, I don’t think Putin has the balls to launch a full-scale invasion. But he clearly thinks he can have his cake and eat it too by holding Ukraine hostage … indefinitely.
