Evangelical leaders sold their souls to Trump in 2016, making Faustian bargains for political power. Under their apostate leadership, Christian nationalism has gone from fringe to mainstream, and is now a potent force threatening American democracy. The infamous Project 2025 is their blueprint for transforming America into a theocratic dystopia.
Gone are the core tenets of the faith: love God, love your neighbor, and forgive others. Instead, loyalty to Trump, banning abortion, stacking courts with MAGA judges, and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem have replaced Christian values. Their so-called mission is now defined by Trump’s seven dystopian virtues: hypocrisy, gaslighting, lying, projection, cruelty, sexual abuse, and grifting. The lost Israelites worshipped a Golden Calf. But they have nothing on the lost Christians who are worshipping this gilded-tower grifter.
But there’s hope in ordinary Christians fighting back to reclaim their faith. They’re like horses that bolted from the barn, realizing life in the wild isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. This noble fight won’t be easy — cult-like indoctrination doesn’t vanish overnight. And unlike their herds, evangelical leaders are thriving in the wild. To be fair, they thrived long before Trump by indulging in the seven deadly sins of lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, envy, and pride. In his inimitable way, Trump just induced them to come out of the closet.
That’s why the resistance won’t come from these so-called men of God — it’ll be a DIY affair: grassroots, guerrilla-style, and long overdue.
