It’s simple. China’s biggest embassy is in The Bahamas because it’s a hub for spying.
Hundreds of millions of Chinese tourists aren’t suddenly heading for The Bahamas. If they were, that would explain the need for China’s biggest embassy being there. That is, to provide consular services.
China’s biggest embassy
China could have built its biggest embassy anywhere in Europe, Asia, or Africa. So why did it choose this small country in the Caribbean? Three reasons: location, location, location.
The embassy’s mission is to provide intelligence on hundreds of millions of Americans. And China is not trying to hide that mission.
Chinese diplomats call themselves “wolf warriors.” That’s because their aggressive style of diplomacy comes across like a bull in a china shop. But it explains why China did not hesitate to build a colossal spying outpost on America’s doorstep. And calling this a normal embassy only fuels its diplomatic aggression. Its gaslighting is galling.
US warns of monument to Chinese dominion
It’s only a matter of time before Chinese President Xi Jinping makes a state visit to The Bahamas. That’s so the world can see him lording over his subjects there like a conquering Caesar.
But some of us warned decades ago that it would come to this. We did because China was
- buying dominion over the Caribbean;
- invading the US’s “sphere of influence” in the Caribbean; and
- buying global influence Russia and the US fought for.
That is why, even in the wake of Hurricane Dorian, I admonished The Bahamas to look the gift horse, that is China, in the mouth.
China realized long ago that it does not have to ape the US and Soviet Union. Those superpowers forged military alliances to establish their respective spheres of influence. China is forging economic ties to establish its sphere. And it’s using manufacturing at home and investments/debt obligations abroad to do so.
For example, America propagates the geopolitical fiction that Taiwan is separate from China. China enforces the geopolitical reality that countries are beholden to it.
Politicians sold out Bahamian independence
I suspect China has compromising dirt on most politicians in The Bahamas. It has them either on tape taking bribes or f*cking sweethearts. Even worse, China is fast becoming the largest employer of local people.
The Bahamas has been known as a place where people go to lay on beautiful beaches under the sun. But soon, it might be known more as a place to stay away from to avoid China’s Trojan embassy with its menacing spies.
Defy America or default on China?
The US and China are heading toward a clash between autocracies and democracies. And there will be many pushes before things come to shove. The Bahamas would be foolish to side with China continually. And that’s no matter how indebted the country, or compromised its politicians, become.
Imagine the fate of The Bahamas if the US bans Americans from traveling to and doing business there. After all, such a ban would take only a stroke of any US president’s pen. And it wouldn’t be long before this island paradise begins heading down the same primrose path Cuba headed. That’s when it continually sided with the Soviet Union in the late 1950s. And we all know how that turned out…
The Soviet Union did not send enough investments and tourists to sustain the Cuban economy. China will not do so to sustain the Bahamian economy.
Not to mention that no Bahamian would welcome China replacing America as this country’s superpower patron. So…
