The New York Post is renowned for its pun-riddled headlines. Above is yesterday’s, which became an instant classic. I could do no better today than to simply quote it.
In an explosive tell-all blog post published Thursday, Jeff Bezos accused the publisher of the National Enquirer of trying to extort him. …
Bezos, the billionaire founder and CEO of Amazon, alleged that AMI [at the behest of its founder David Pecker] threatened to release compromising photos of him. His post included what he said were emails from AMI detailing what he described as ‘extortion and blackmail.’
(CNN Business, February 8, 2019)
For the record, the National Enquirer was threatening to publish lewd texts and dick pics. Evidently, Bezos developed a juvenile habit of sending them to his mistress (eww!).
The media are hailing him as a hero. Never mind that Bezos is only “exposing” what Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen exposed in court months ago, namely that Pecker uses the National Enquirer to either curry favors or extort them.
I am also mindful that the only reason Bezos is playing this role is that the National Enquirer caught him cheating on his loyal wife of 25 years. And don’t get me started on his smug assertion that he’s too rich to be blackmailed. I hope his wife squeezes this selfie-taking, ball-baring geek for far more than half of their $137 billion net worth.
Frankly, Bezos and Pecker deserve each other. Lest you forget, nobody profits more from spying on the private affairs of others than Bezos does through his “Big-Brother” hegemon, Amazon.
But I’m sure the feds will sort out this sordid mess and provide the happy ending we all want to see. For now, I trust you’ll agree it deserves no further comment.
