It is truly a testament to America’s enduring greatness that it has survived four years of this president-cum-dictator wannabe trying his damndest to destroy every one of its foundational institutions. All that’s left is for him to booby-trap the White House and mine its gardens as he leaves for the last time on January 20. Biden beware …

That’s why I’m not too worried about this:
On Twitter, Trump has called Jan. 6 a historic day’ that will be ‘wild!’ He has also hinted he may personally appear.
‘As he continues this incendiary rhetoric, he’s inciting his supporters and inflaming the situation,’ says Chuck Hagel, Defense Secretary under President Obama and former Republican Senator from Nebraska who signed a recent letter with the other nine living former defense secretaries that Trump’s election fraud claims are dangerous. ‘I’m concerned about violence.’
Trump’s supporters’ hopes are also being fueled by at least 140 House Republicans and 12 Senators who say they are planning to vote against counting the electoral votes that would officially certify the election for Biden on Wednesday.

Granted, there are two glaring differences between Jones and Trump:
- Jones treated his followers with genuine love; whereas Trump treats his with cynical contempt.
- Jones felt obliged to sacrifice himself along with his followers, much like a captain deciding to go down with his ship; whereas Trump would sacrifice the lives of his followers just to feed his own ego, and would be the first to abandon ship to save his own hide.
That said, I feel obliged to add that his MAGA followers probably thought he was joking when he said during one campaign rally last year that he would have nothing to do with them if he loses. He was not. Because Trump sees them as nothing more than mindless suckers willing to do anything he says — even if that means starving their own children to contribute to his political slush fund.
Trust me, you need only compare the types of people who frequent his hotels and join his golf clubs with those who attend his campaign rallies to know where Trump’s enduring affinities lie. But I suspect he would want nothing to do with the redneck, riff-raffs who attend his rallies if they could afford his hotels and golf clubs.
