President Trump delivering the sermon at a national prayer breakfast is like the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan delivering the keynote address at the NAACP convention. Yet, DC politicians dutifully assembled on Thursday to hear his MAGA sermon.
But MAGA evangelicals listening to Trump’s blasphemous, self-worshipping drivel had to feel trapped in a purgatory of their own making. Their craven lust for power has turned the Beatitudes and Ten Commandments into cult-like Orwellian catechisms. For example:
God says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
MAGA says, blessed are the rich in all material things, for they are favored by God – because poverty merely reflects moral failure.
God says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
MAGA says, blessed are those who scorn mourners, for they shall be rewarded for mocking grief as “weak” and empathy as “woke.”
God says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.”
MAGA says, blessed are the aggressors – who invade countries or make offers countries can’t refuse, for they shall be feared as the Godfathers of God.
God says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
MAGA says, blessed are the plunderers and schemers, for they shall become rich and wield power to strip the hungry and thirsty of food and water – all in the name of fiscal responsibility.
God says, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.”
MAGA says, thou shall worship a gilded-tower grifter – the walking embodiment of Mammon.
Alas, evangelicals have become like the lost Israelites. They take apostate pride in twisting the loving teachings of Jesus Christ into Orwellian catechisms to propagate the grifting propaganda of Donald Trump.
