The Rock: wannabe president afraid of politics
Yesterday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson expressed regret that he endorsed Biden in 2020 and pledged not to do so again. That was breaking news, especially because he did it on Fox News.
The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time. I realize now going into this election, I will not do that, my goal is to bring this country together. …
Fame is a super power when used correctly, I believe, to influence people. … There’s gonna be no endorsement. Not that I’m afraid of it, but I realize that with this level of influence, I keep my politics to myself.
(Fox News, April 5, 2024)
In essence, “The Rock” thinks disavowing empathetic Biden is the best way to “bring this country together.” Except that, in doing so, he’s effectively supporting autocratic Trump. He must have a rock for brains.
A fool’s lament
Whether you vote for them or not, Joe Biden or Donald Trump will win the November presidential election. So, all the handwringing about how undesirable both are and not wanting to vote for either is a fool’s lament.
With all due respect to RFK Jr. and Cornell West, failing to vote for Biden means you want Trump to win, period.
As it turns out, The Rock’s lament puts him in the cowards’ gallery with many prominent Republicans. They’re all over the media seeking praise for saying they won’t vote for Trump but immediately taking pride in saying they won’t vote for Biden.
Frankly, he and they are self-righteous cowards who should STFU! After all, if Trump isn’t good enough for them, he can’t be good enough for the country.
Judge J. Michael Littig is a universally acclaimed and respected Republican. But, in stark contrast, he has publicly denounced Trump as a “clear and present” danger to American democracy. And he has urged Republicans to vote for Biden.
That alone should oblige any patriotic American, Democrat or Republican, to stop Trump from getting elected president. The least they can do in that respect is vote for Biden. And, if they’re famous, they should endorse him and urge other Americans to vote not just for Biden but for Democrats down the ballot too.
From hero to zero
The Rock proclaims that fame should be used to influence people. Yet it seems influencing them to vote for empathetic Biden instead of autocratic Trump is not a worthy use of his fame.
That makes him seem not only as dumb as a rock but as vain as a peacock. And how Trumpian of The Rock to insist he’s not afraid when it’s obvious that he is — of losing his fame.
But God forbid he should use his fame for anything other than personal enrichment and self-aggrandizement. After all, this guy shows off on social media every time he gets a sponsor to fund a home or car for him to give away.
Apropos of which, why do you think he appeared on Fox News to make this political announcement? Trust me, he did so only because data show that its MAGA viewers compose the majority of the WWE fanbase. And The Rock has just become a board member of TKO Group Holdings, which owns that wrestling entertainment enterprise.
The bottom line is that this announcement makes the heroic Rock look like a cowardly mush. He clearly values his own fame more than the welfare of the country. And nothing can be more Trumpian than that!
His fellow wrestler-turn-movie-star John Cena apologizing to China for calling Taiwan a country was shameful enough. But the Rock apologizing to Fox for endorsing Biden is pathetic.
