‘The world is laughing at us’ says Trump.
(The BBC, February 6, 2018)
He says this all the time, of course. It’s like a Tourette vocal tic.
More to the point, though, it betrays his clinical projection.
That said, some of us were laughing at Donald Trump long before he launched his laughable presidential bid in 2015. And it did not take long for him to become such an international laughingstock that the following unthinkable spectacle played out on the world stage:
World leaders and diplomats at the UN general assembly in New York openly laughed at Donald Trump after he claimed his administration had accomplished more than almost any other in US history.
(The Guardian, September 25, 2018)
That was last year. And this buffoon has only given world leaders and diplomats myriad reasons to laugh at him even more at this year’s UN general assembly next month.
Except that, as his boast at the UN indicated, Trump is too self-absorbed to even think, let alone see, that the world is laughing at him.
Still, I remain all too mindful that the joke’s not on Trump but the rest of us. After all, he’s the most powerful man in the world.
