Lil’ Kim – accustomed to the worshiping grasps of adoring fans, here recoiling from the intrusive crush of philistine reporters on her way to be sentenced for committing perjury to protect members of her trigger-happy gangsta family.
Lil’ Kim appeared in court last week for sentencing after being convicted a few months ago for lying to a federal grand jury about a gunfight outside a radio station in 2001.
But she surprised the judge, fans and fellow rappers by throwing herself on the mercy of the court. In fact, as she pleaded for leniency, Lil’ Kim sounded more like born again Kimberly Jones (her real name) from suburbia than the notorious dirty-talking rap diva from the hood which was her trademark persona. Moreover, her courtroom confessional seemed positively genuine when she laid it on – with a broken and contrite heart – as follows:
I testified falsely during the grand jury and trial. At the time, I thought it was the right thing to do, but now I know it was wrong….I put a burden on my friends and family. I put a burden on the court system….I have worked hard my entire life for what I have. I have separated myself from those who pretended to be my family and have found peace with my mother and my music. I am a God-fearing, good person.
Hallelujah!
Of course, the homeboys and sistas in her crew felt dissed but Judge Gerard Lynch was moved. He acknowledged her remorse and even lamented the evil temptations and “heavy burdens” poor Lil’ (rich) Kim has had to bear as a young black woman living in America today. He then surprised Lil’ Kim, her real family and fellow court officials by giving her the same legal break any white celebrity in her situation would no doubt have received. And, instead of the 20 years prosecutors demanded, Judge Lynch sentenced her to only 1 year and 1 day!
In offering a politically correct rationale for his decision, Judge Lynch cited the precedent set by the sentencing of domestic diva Martha Stewart. He noted that the public would wonder why a young black rapper would get significantly more time than a white TV star for committing the same crime of perjury. (Stewart was sentenced to 10 months and allowed to serve half of that time under home confinement at her luxurious farm house in upstate New York.)
He then ended his reasoning on a sobering and enlightened (rhetorical) note by asking:
Do you think I could justify a sentence seven times that of another entertainer who happens to be older and whiter and whose following is richer?
Some of us have been asking that very question in many cases for years. Thanks Judge Lynch for finally answering it by delivering equal justice in this case!
Note: Now all Lil’ Kim needs is for the media to help her cash in on her criminal notoriety the way they helped Martha return to billionaire status for doing nothing but cleaning toilets in prison for five months….
Keep the faith Lil’ Kim (or is that Ms Jones now) and do the toilets baby!

its about time one of these rappers suffered real consequences for their bad behaviour. but ny prosecutors must have something against women because just like using martha as a scapegoat for all the male crooks on wall st, they’re using this female rapper as a scapegoat for all the bad behavior of rappers like 50cent and the game who were involved in shootings almost everyday.
