And the most exciting day in my favorite spectator sport, women’s tennis, is semi-final Thursday – when the final four girls play to make to the finals of the Grand Slams.
Likewise, the most exciting day in NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball is the semi-final Saturday – when the “Final Four” teams play to make it to the national championship game.
And today’s doubleheader pitting UCLA vs. Memphis and North Carolina vs. Kansas promises to be especially so. Because, for the first time in history, the top-seeded team in all four regions made it to the Final Four.
Incidentally, I doubt the excitement will be diminished in the least by this year’s purported Cinderella team, Davidson, finding out against Kansas last week that the glass sneakers that were supposed to take them to the championship just did not fit….
That said, let me hasten to clarify that I am not a big fan of college basketball. Frankly, I know few people who are. After all, their interest in college basketball seems limited to picking teams on a whim from brackets in their office pools.
Whereas, I can at least claim a sentimental reason for picking North Carolina to win this year’s championship. And that reason can be summed up in one name: Charlie Rose – my favorite TV interviewer.
Because the way Charlie spoke of reassessing priorities in his life after a near-death experience last year prompted me to do the same in mine. And, more to the point, one of the things he waxed most hopeful about was seeing his North Carolina Tar Heels win another NCAA championship. And that’s good enough for me!
So, go Tar Heels!

Hello Mr. Hall,
I am concerned for my country the Turks and Caicos islands.
The things that are happening and the the way it appears that they are accepted is truly frightening.
Freedom of Speech has is definetly gone from the TCI.
People are fearful to speak. It is like the people in the TCI do not know the difference between right and wrong anymore. Everyone want a piece of the pie.
Let me talk about one of the current issues that concerns me. The fact that the Premier is facing some serious allegations but none of the media in the TCi are carrying this story. The Bahamas is and other caribean countries but not the TCI.
In the same time while no media is carrying it on the Government TV station they have the Premier on all day and night everyday talking about he is for the people of the TCI, a man of his word etc. It is as if they tell the people this is how we want you to think.
The Opposition is not even allowed on this station. This is wrong.
The people have a problem with this but they are afraid to speak out. All they do is complain in their small circles but they do nothing out of fear.
The Priemier is like a devil and he is wrong for this county.
I heard that he is trying to pay this woman off. There are people here who thinks that the Premier is really the iron Mike. I do not believe this but I am tired of him getting away with the wrong he is doing to this country.
I do not know whether the allegation are ture or not but it was wrong for him to have placed himself in the position where she can accuse him. He admits that he had sex with her. How nasty and irresponsible can a leader be.
The people are hoping that the UK will help to deliver them from this man.
I do not know what to think as the Governor is now being reffered to as taking the position of Hon. Floyd Hall as the Premier’s right hand man as he would say and do anything to protect Mike.
God has delivered the TCI from this corrupt Governor and now I am tructing in him to deliver our nation from Mike.
I pray that you are in contact with the UK and that you are keeping them abreast of all that is happening here in the TCI.
Thank you for creating the opportunity for me to express my concerns. God bless you

I forgot to tell you that he Governor, the Police the Attorney general, the radio station the TV station none of them has said anything about the investigation of the Premier. (i think that by now we should have heard something from the Governor at lease who is in charge of the police) It is the biggest kept secret in the TCI. They are trying their best to hide it. I pray that the US continues to observe what is happening in this investigation as if they do not, this will be swept under the rug just like many other crimes that involves the Premier, his family and his close friends/supporters.
