The best way to honor those who died is for the government to not only do everything possible to prevent it from happening again, but also be as prepared as possible to react when it does.

Unfortunately, the government is not doing nearly enough to prevent another 9/11. Moreover, it seems no more prepared to react to another terrorist attack than it was six years ago….

God [Protect] America!

Meanwhile, it’s impossible to reason with those who insist that – because America has not been attacked since 9/11 – criticism of the Bush Administration in this respect is unwarranted. Nevertheless, I entreat all who proffer this view to consider the following:

The war in Afghanistan, which I highlight above, was a just war. And, it seemed to have been a well-fought war – until President Bush conflated retribution for 9/11 with his ill-fated crusade to democratize the Middle East, and then launched a preemptive war against Iraq.

But America going to war against Iraq to find WMDs (or whatever the pretext is these days) was almost as foolhardy as Israel going to war against Hezbollah to find a kidnapped soldier. Because in both cases, the collateral damage they caused (in terms of lives, property and goodwill) was far more unconscionable than the acts which America and Israel claim provoked these wars.

Never mind that what seemed to have been a stunning victory in Afghanistan is being undermined by a resurgent Taliban – making this war now seem almost as half-assed and lacking in purpose as the war in Iraq. And, to add insult to the mess America has made of both wars, al-Qaeda terrorists remind us almost daily that they remain as great a threat today as they were on 9/11….

Finally, earth to the CIA: Osama bin Laden is not only irrelevant; he’s dead!

Frankly, it’s now easy to see how group-think American intelligence, and herd-like American media, misled us to believe that Saddam Hussein possessed WMDs.

After all, how else does one explain the CIA confirming, and media outlets reporting, that the dye-bearded Osama look-a-like who’s starring this week in al Qaeda’s annual 9/11 mockumentary is, in fact, a resurrected bin Laden…?
