Congratulations, Madam President! (If Hillary Had Won…)
Many of my progressive friends are having a hard time coming to terms with Donald Trump as president-elect of the United States. Some are even joining self-flagellating, flash-mob protests, which are springing all over the country, to vent their raging disbelief. I tried reasoning with them to no avail. Ironically, some of them are convinced… Read more.
WTF! President-elect Donald J. Trump?! America. What. Have. You. Done? [UPDATED]
I get the impression I disappointed many of you more than Hillary did – given the way you reacted yesterday to my brief commentary on the outcome of this election. I hope this updated version makes amends. Donald John Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States on Tuesday in a stunning culmination… Read more.
FBI Repeats: ‘No Reasonable Prosecutor’ Would Charge Hillary Over E-mails
Nine days ago, Director James Comey sent a letter informing congressional leaders that the FBI was reviewing newly discovered e-mails. He said they “appeared to be pertinent” to its yearlong investigation into Hillary’s use of a private e-mail server. Unsurprisingly, the immediate leaking of that letter shocked the world. Politicians and pundits (of every partisan disposition)… Read more.
The Gunpowder Plot
Remember, remember! The fifth of November, The Gunpowder, Treason and Plot. I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot! I learned this English folk verse (circa 1870) in primary school. History.com summarizes the infamous plot it regales as follows: The Gunpowder Plot was a failed attempt to blow up England’s King… Read more.
Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Win!
For even the casual sports fan, this headline must read like the second coming of Jesus Christ. That’s how improbable it was. In fact, my unwillingness to suspend disbelief informed the confidence inherent in writing them off as follows: The Chicago Cubs won a thrilling game against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night. But they still trail 3 games… Read more.
Hey, FBI, Scavenging Hillary’s E-mails Is No Way to Disrupt Terrorist Plots
The Chicago Cubs won a thrilling game against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night. But they still trail 3 games to 2 in this best-of-7 World Series. Game 6 is tonight, when I expect the Indians (my team) to extend the fabled Cubs’ 108-year losing streak. With all due respect to this fall classic, however, the presidential… Read more.
Biggest October Surprise Ever! FBI Reopens Investigation Into Hillary’s E-mails
Here in part is what I wrote about the suspicions, scandals, and investigations surrounding Hillary’s e-mails in “E-mailgate: FBI Gives Hillary Tongue Lashing but Recommends No Charges,” July 5, 2016. ____________________ I wagered in my July 1 commentary that Hillary would be indicted. And, sure enough, as Director Comey delineated the findings of her extreme… Read more.
Salaries of College Coaches Reflect Enduring Master-Slave Relationships
I can’t imagine any student-athlete reading the following without feeling like an indentured servant having salt slathered in open wounds: Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is making $9 million this year, overtaking Alabama coach Nick Saban at $6.9 million… Rounding out the top five are Ohio State’s Urban Meyer at $6 million, Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops at… Read more.
WikiLeaks: more Tabloid Peddler than Transparency Crusader
I’ve been decrying WikiLeaks for years as little more than a reckless peddler of tabloid fodder. Unfortunately, the chorus of fellow progressives singing its praises made me feel like the proverbial John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness. Here, for example, is what I wrote in “Ecuador Grants Wikileaker Julian Assange Asylum … in London?”… Read more.
